A Confession
and
Six Words that Meant the World

I have a confession to make. Or maybe an FYI. Anyway, Prince Charming and I have separated. We have been for a week and one day as of today. We have known since before Christmas that this needed to happen, but were unable financially to do anything. Finally,at the end of January, we were in a place where we could go through with it.

We still talk all day, he still visits both me and the kids, and we are still friends. Divorce is not on the table. We simply both have issues that must be worked out, worked through, moved past, and growing up to do. And some of this just can't happen while we are living under the same roof. At least for me. We are going to go to counseling. We are going to try everything to make it through this. And I believe we will both be better in the end.

So if you have heard me whining about no job, now you know why. And if I am not on here to visit or post, now you know why :-) I really am okay. I miss him. I'm lonely. I'm terrified. But I've had a while to prepare for what's ahead of me. The kids are taking it in stride, trying to figure things out. The hardest part is worrying if I've made the right choice. If this is the path that will help us both in the end. But all I can do is have Faith in myself and my abilities to see my through whatever may come.

There has not been an overwhelming sense of support for me, nor has there been any severe disagreements. Just a mildly worried acceptance. Sometimes that makes it hard, scares me more, and makes me doubt myself. But this weekend, two people said something to me and without knowing what they had done, they gave me an amazing sense of peace, strength and calm.

Somone reminded me to 'Be Yourself'. Something I have been struggling with for a while now. Who I am, who I want to be, who I should be. Somehow those words instantly reminded me of where I wanted to go in my life and draw strength from that.

Another person, who is not an emotional type, said to me "I am proud of you.' And while maybe to others these are just ordinary words, they made me cry and helped restore my faith in myself and in my journey.

So to those people, if you are reading this, Thank you for what you have given me. Thank you for reminding me. And thank you for loving me.

What I wouldn't give for a System Reset Button

When your laptop, desktop, cell phone, i-pod or other electronic device goes bonkey it's usually easy to fix. You simply reset the system, either by powering the item off and then back on or actually hitting a system reset button.

Lately, I've really been wishing I came with one of these. A simple little power off or reset button that I could push to make my brain magically reboot and stop stressing all the time . I've tried to find it. I've searched my person high and low. Alas, I have come up with zilch, nada, nothing.

Sometimes a 20 minute nap will help. Sometimes a night out of the house for 'me' time helps. Sometimes it seems nothing will help. Today...is one of those days.

At 5:30 this morning I heard my phone ringing in an extremely loud and obnoxious way. Okay, so it was the normal ring tone but the time made it seem loud and obnoxious. Finally realizing it wasn't part of my dream I dragged myself out of bed to find the damn thing, with every intention of telling whoever was on the other end exactly what I thought of people who woke me up an hour before my loud obnoxious alarm was set to go off.

By the time I found my phone the person had stopped calling and had started calling P.C.'s phone. I didn't recognize the number but they had left me a voice mail message so I called to retrieve it. This is what I heard: "Brother, This is Skinny Minny. I wrecked the car. Call me back."

It was my sister-in-law and we had traded vehicles 3 days ago so we could do some errands with her truck. I walked into the bedroom, woke up P.C. and waited.

While trying to avoid a vehicle that had come into her lane she had lost control of the car. Thankfully she was okay, but very shook up. She had to start hitching to find a way to call us (she had lost her cell during the accident), was picked up by a pervert, made pervert let her out of car and then walked to someone's house and knocked. Somehow at this point the police were called as they thought Skinny Minny was trying to break into the house. They took her back to the car and called one of her friends to come and get her. At that point she was able to call us and tell us what happened. Thankfully, although very shaken and upset she was okay. And that is all that really matters.

The other side of my stress comes as we found out the car is D.O.N.E. The kind of deep fried done you buy on a stick at carnivals and county fairs. She rolled and is all sorts of smashed up, banged up and windows broke out. The whole nine yards you would expect from a vehicle being rolled.

So today we are trying to figure out what we will do, as we still owe $7,000 on the thing we haven't even owned for 6 months. Thank heavens tax return season is right around the corner and we will be able to hopefully purchase another vehicle. Until then we are stuck with the Hooptie ('85 Oldsmobile Cutlass) as a family vehicle and Skinny Minny's truck that she thankfully loaned us while we figure everything out. So everything will turn out in the end. But I can't seem to convince my brain of that and make it turn the hell off.

I am so thankful Skinny Minny is safe and so so very glad she was in our vehicle as it had a great safety rating. Maybe fate knew what was going to happen and had she been in her truck the turn out could have been horrific and tragic.

But when all is said and done...my brain would just really love a system reset.

"Please hold, while the Nextel Subscriber you are trying to reach is located"

my husband and I hear this often when we try to call each other's cell phones. Once we finally get through we always joke, "There you are! I was worried 'cause you were missing!"

That's how I've felt the past few days where my blog was concerned. I wanted to be here. I needed to be here. But everything in the world was keeping me from being here.

Would you like me to bitch, moan and whine tell you about my week? I am pretty sure that Karma didn't like hearing I thought she could be a real bitch and so decided to prove to me just how much of a bitch she could be.

Here goes:

Thursday: My internet was very wish washy all morning and I simply couldn't connect for more than a few minutes at a time.

I started to feel the head cold that has plagued my children for the past few days creeping up on me.

I went and chaperoned Liberty's field trip to the apple orchard: 65 kids. Bees. Very high temperatures.

By the time I got home head cold had firmly established itself in my head.

Add on top of this, Bean, who choose this particular day to become the absolute definitive definition of a Terrible Two year old. I would have put in my two weeks notice....but....no internet.

Friday: Alex and Liberty head off on the bus, my husband heads off to school. Bean and I start our morning routines so I can lay on couch and die due to my cold.

my husband walks back in the house 20 minutes after leaving. Our car threw a rod and it's down for the count. Frack. Frack. Frack. So now we start brainstorming what we are going to do as we really need to have a decent car (our "backup" car is a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutless. Dependable? HELL yes. Gas Guzzler? HELL YES. Practical as a daily family/work vehicle?? HELL NO.)

Had it waited two weeks, we would have had a great down payment and buying a vehicle would be no problem. This day? Not so much. We head to dealership anyway. Sit there for 3.5 hours. Walk out with a 2001 Chrysler Concorde that we love!

Crisis Averted.

Now we are to busy driving around in new car for me to stop and blog.

Saturday: Two Soccer Games, 5,000 sneezes, 2 hot dogs and a few not so nice names said under my breathe towards another soccer mom pretty much sum up my morning.

The rest of the afternoon was spent trying not to die at my cousin's 18th birthday part.

That evening my husband got home from work and babied me with chicken soup, a purple rose and this tea. The tea knocked me on my butt and 5 minutes after my 2nd cup I was OUT.

Best sleep I'd had in 4 days.

Sunday: Spent morning trying to get as much house cleaning and football snacks made as possible before my husband came home and yelled at me for doing all that while I was sick.

Sunday afternoon spent sitting on couch knitting. Aunt Skinny Minny comes and pick up Bean for a week long stay with her and MIL.

Sunday evening I decided to go to my mom's for a little knitting help. I left around 7 p.m.

About 1/2 mile from her house 4 deer ran out of cornfield and across rode. I panicked. I slammed on breaks. I was on a newly overly graveled road. I lost control. Car( ( new car) starts spinning.

I end up in Ditch. A steep inclined 5 foot ditch.

Car ( new. not. even. 4. day. old .car.) is nose down, back wheels off ground and S.T.U.C.K. I get out of car. I fall in hole and loose a shoe. I can't find shoe in dark and deep hole so start the 1/2 mile walk in the dark to my moms house. I walk in and loose it. Her and my step dad drive me back to car and we pull it out with their work van.

I go home to face the music. my husband doesn't even bat an eyelash about the car and just kisses me and wants to be reassured I am okay (Gawd I love that man). We start calls to insurance company and county police as new car most definitely has more than $500 damage. I go to sleep.

Monday (today): I get up. Get kids on bus. Drive my husband to work.

Drive an hour to Insurance adjuster appointment at collision repair center. Pick up Rental car.

Drive 1.5 hours in opposite direction to go to file accident report at County sheriff's office.

Go home to wait for kids to get off bus.

Take kids through McDonald's drive through and wait to pick my husband up from work. Drive my husband to class.

And now I have been sitting here in the 3 story exploration adventure since 6 p.m. letting Alex and Liberty wear themselves out.

I am in an all glass enclosed room. Laptop in hand. Reclining in a leather arm chair.

In one hour I have to leave to Pick my husband up from class, drive home, put kids to bed and finish the house cleaning that wasn't done today.

But right now. At this moment. Everything is okay. Everything has worked out. And I am finally back at my blog. Reclining in a leather chair. In a sound proof room.

Shhh. Don't tell Karma. But life is looking up.

The trouble with Knitting...

I've decided to learn to knit. I've always wanted to, and I've been told that as a kid I knew how. I did have a brief stint with crochet while preggers with Alex, but that was also short lived.

Why knitting?

Because yesterday (while getting a fabulous hair cut) I was looking through this catalog and saw these:

I knew immediately that Liberty needed those this winter:

#1. Because I like her to be all hip like that
#2. Because they are beyond freaking adorable
#3. Because they go outside unless it's 10 deg. or below, and with these she can still wear tights and skirts.

Then her and her (both also getting a fabulous hair cut) suggested that I learn to knit, because they have both started knitting recently. Plus $18 for a pair of leg warmers seemed a little much to me.

I have yarn. I have the needles. I have the book with beginner instructions and how to's. And I'm confused as all heck.

Web design, scrap booking, nature photography, writing, baking and cooking? Now those are my hobbies. I am not so good at the sewing thing.

Want proof?

I can't knit all afternoon like I planned. Why? Because I have to wait for Prince Charming to get home from work to show me how.
...
...
...
...
...
Yes. It's okay. Laugh. Very Very loud. And then please send large bottles of vodka wish me luck.

****Update****
Thanks to Roz's great link, I have successfully mastered the cast on, knit, and purl.

All.By.Myself.

Thus my self respect has been preserved. I love my Prince Charming and he's a great catch (thus..the Prince Charming title) but learning to knit from your hubby? Not so high on the cool factor.

Roz: I love you! I love you! I love you!

Bean Sick Just Plain Sucks.
For Everyone

Two year old people never stop moving. Ever. Not even in their sleep.

My Bean is no different. She is always on the go, always exploring something, always copying her Brother or Sissy.

I have joked with my mom many times that they should clone Bean and require every house to have one. I am pretty sure that there would be world peace if everyone had a Bean. She is never ending motion, pure sunshine and the smile you've always wanted to see.

Until yesterday.

I woke her up from her nap and she was a little warm, but I just thought it was because her room was warm. Then Prince Charming came home, gave her a hug and kiss, and asked if I knew Bean had a fever. I felt her and OMG, fever was an understatement. I hadn't noticed because she was acting and playing normally. I took her temp and she was at 104.3!

I went through everything in my head, decided not to panic, gave her some Motrin and then put her to bed. An hour later I checked her temp and it wasn't really any better so we let her stay up for a while. It was down to 103 when I put her back to bed.

At about 10:30 she woke up screaming so I went to check on her. Her glands were swollen and her fever was back at a strong 104.4. I decided if she went over 104.5 I would take her to the e.r. but she never did. She laid on my chest for another hour in and out of sleep, before I put her back to bed for the night.

This morning her temp was jumping between 102 and 102.8 and by the time we arrived at the docs she was 103.5 and had thrown up twice. He said that it's a bug going around (I do think it's the same thing Liberty had last week with exception of fever) and to keep giving her Motrin (at a slightly higher dose) and keep her hydrated.

After that I ran the girls to Walmart to get Motrin and some other groceries as we were out of everything. While there she got sick again and so we left, only to realize as I buckled them in I had forgotten the Motrin. So we had to unbuckle and go back in.

We finally got home and by then her temp was over 104 again and she was so flushed and out of it I started to worry. I gave her another dose of Motrin and it has helped some.

But I really miss my little ray of sunshine and honestly, seeing my baby girl so quiet, still and miserable is breaking my heart:

(As of right now at 6:30 p.m. she's passed out in my bed, her fever is spiking up again, she hasn't drank anything in over 3 hours and she won't take her medicine. She's looking a little dehydrated and I am currently seeing a late night trip to the E.R. in her future *frown*)

Mr. Bubbles
Part 1, 2 and 3

Part One

Somebody decided Bean needed a friend. Her brother and sister are heading off to school in a few days and she would be left to her own amusement with only her Mommy as company. So somebody bought her a friend.

Meet Mr. Bubbles:

Mr. Bubbles quickly became a favorite of everyone in the house (including myself). Bean was absolutley beside herself with joy at having her own pet and Mr. Bubbles quickly became her bestest friend:
Sadly, Mr. Bubbles had not been a member of the house for very long when we realized that all was not well. It seemed that the cute kitchen table bowl was not large enough for such a rotund Mr. Bubbles and that he required a pump for extra oxygen.

So Sunday morning we piled the family in the car on a mission to upgrade Mr. Bubble's living arrangements. We bought him a spacious 5 gallon tank, complete with ceiling lights, filter and a central oxygen deployment unit. As a housewarming gift he received 10 ghost shrimp for pals and a water plant to set the mood in case there was ever a future Mrs. Bubbles. All seemed to be going well and good. Bean was very excited to show Mr. Bubbles his new house.

Once we got home though, our worst fears had been realized. Mr. Bubbles was sleeping with the fishes (I know..that's horrid..but it's too funny to pass up). Alex and Liberty were very upset at the loss of our newest pet and temporary chaos ensued.

Amidst all of the commotion and consoling we all realized that Bean was standing there talking to Mr. Bubbles and trying to get him to swim. We all stood there for a moment and then I made the executive decision to explain to Bean that Mr. Bubbles was very sleepy and taking a nap.

R.I.P. Mr. Bubbles

Part Two

Once I had Bean convinced that Mr. Bubbles was taking a nap, Alex, Liberty and I got back into the car and headed to Wal-mart to purchase a 'replacement' . We managed to find an almost exact clone and also purchased another fish so the (new) Mr. Bubbles wouldn't be lonely in his 5 gallon condo (ghost shrimp really don't take up that much room).

We arrived back home to put (new) Mr. Bubbles in his home and Bean promptly named the new fish 'Friend'. So now we have (new) Mr. Bubbles and Friend both happily living it up and partying with their ghost shrimp.

Bean went to bed easily and happily once she kissed them both goodnight and turned off their light so they could also go night night.

Catastrophe avoided.

Part Three

You thought the story was over didn't you? At this point you were getting ready to comment how lucky I was that Bean is only Two years old and bought the whole 'nappy' theory. You had visions of (new) Mr. Bubbles, Friend, and their 10 ghost shrimp living it up in style, floating happily and basking in the love and care of my adorable angel.

Well....Not so much.

This morning Prince Charming and I noticed that, once again, (new) Mr. Bubbles wasn't looking so good. He wasn't exactly green around the gills (OMG. I know. I just can't resist though), but it didn't seem right that he be swimming nose down and tail up.

I panicked. I worried. I wept (okay..I didn't really weep..but I was very very sad).

I kept a close eye on both (new)Mr. Bubbles and Friend. Oddly enough it only seemed to be (new)Mr. Bubbles that was affected. (The 10 ghost shrimp were fine. Brave survivors they are.)

I am sad to say that shortly after Bean woke up this morning and fed (new)Mr. Bubbles and Friend that we found (new)Mr. Bubbles had also gotten very 'seepy' and was also taking a permanent 'nappy'.

Now poor Friend is friendless and has been left to care for the 10 ghost shrimp all by himself.

Tonight I will be heading back to Wal-mart with receipt and frozen (new)Mr. Bubbles in hand to attempt find another replacement.

Stay tuned for the continuing saga of the (new)(new) Mr. Bubbles and Friend....

A Time of Good-bye's...

Once again I am sure you have noticed my disappearing act. It's been a long and strange life here since last Thursday.

First, my laptop finally died. As in Dead. As in...nadda, nothing, zip, zero. So I called HP and they determined I needed a new motherboard, so she will soon be on her way to be repaired. Our desktop also decided around the same time that it didn't like my internet provider and no longer wished to work with it. The fact that I actually got online today is a miracle.

The second is that Prince Charming and I have decided to separate. Not on a permanent basis. Just for a while. We both feel that we need to do some growing up in places we haven't allowed each other, find ourselves, establish positive communication and find our way back to each other. After almost 11 years with him this is the hardest thing I have ever prepared to go through. He will be moving out in 1.5 weeks. I have to get a job. I will be sending the kids with him every other weekend. I have to sleep alone at night. I have to grow up and be a big girl now.

It is hard and yes, maybe even a bit drastic. But right now we both feel this is a truly positive step in getting our relationship back on track. Hopefully this will also prevent us from slipping back into old habits and hurts and establish a new pattern of interaction for us. We are planning on dating each other like we should have this entire time. The talks we've had since this decision have been some of the most open and honest of our entire relationship. I have already, in just the past 4 days, fallen completely in love with him in a whole new way.

We have started the process of facing the world together..instead of fighting each other over the world. We are finding the way back to being what we need, both for ourselves, and for each other. We are learning how to not only love, but show that love, all over again.

So I hope you'll forgive me for not visiting lately and my infrequent posts. Right now I am focusing on how to find me and be the person I know that I can, and learning how to love my husband all over again.

Missing you all lots.
xoxo

The best post on depression. EVER.

I have suffered from depression on and off for about 9 years. I've had my up days. I've had my down days. I've had my all out psychotic days. I've had my higher than a kite days.

I've wanted to share my feelings and what it's like many times. To let others know that they are not alone and how I get myself through it all. But I haven't. I haven't been able to figure out exactly how to express myself and the raw emotions of the bad days.

Today while looking up Sk*rts I found this post by Suburban Oblivion.

Sara does an amazing and perfect job describing what I've felt and gone through. I hope you'll go over and read it for yourself.

My Two Weeks Notice

May 30, 2007
10:30 A.M.
Via E-mail

Dear President of Prince Charming Family Co.,

I am writing to inform you that I am resigning. I have decided after careful consideration that I no longer wish to be employed by this company.

I was informed upon hire of the long hours, almost non existent benefit package, and the "little or no" pay off until years of services have been provided. However, I find that circumstances in my latest assigned project are unacceptable and unreasonable.

Copy Of Official Complaint Form:

The '2 Year Molars' Project
Project Start Date: May 14th, 2007
Project Goals and Description: To keep lower level management (my boss) as professional, in the right state of mind and make process as painless and easy as possible.

My Issues:

  • It is impossible to keep anyone happy when they are running fever, constantly screaming, being as defiant as possible, and using everything within reaching distance as either a sibling torture device or gum pain removal device.
  • During this project my boss would consistently request a snack, then for no reason decide that she no longer desired original snack, and begin screaming hysterically, demanding the proper snack be brought out. As difficult as the yelling and shrieking was to tolerate, the worse issue was my bosses total lack of communication skills, which prevented me from knowing which snack was the desired snack. This, of course, would contribute to a highly stressful and exhausting process of guessing what my boss wanted as quickly and efficiently as was expected of me. Simply put, there should have been a secondary project launched with the extra staff required and titled 'The Snack Project'
  • I have tried numerous times to inform my boss of scheduled meetings outside of our office. She refuses to be reasonable and refuses to leave the premises. She insists that she must be required to continue work on her favorite current project 'Fisher Price Peoples' as opposed to the very necessary meeting required to ensure continuation of project' The Family Must Eat'.
  • I have attempted many times to indulge my boss in her desired outside activities, yet the moment we step outside the building she begins to get irritable, irrational and insist we go back in the building. Once inside she then begins fretting and trying to coerce me into escorting her back outside.
  • Her treatment of other lower management personal has also left much to be desired. She suddenly screams 'NO' to them whenever spoken too. She finds great delight in stealing other managements snacks, lunches and drinks whenever possible. She constantly requests they accompany her on outings and then becomes enraged when they do not do exactly as she sees fit. This has resulted in throwing of spaghetti, plummeting with a doll, blanket thievery, sleep deprivation of co-habituating management and exposure to the most ear wrenching, brain stopping, head splitting screams and cries ever known to exist.

This irrational, indecisive, horribly crabby, and unreasonable expectations have left me no choice but to resign my position. I have given all I have to give and simply cannot continue to work under these types of conditions and pressure.

Sincerely,
Chris
(Your Wife)

P.S.

I have enclosed evidence that validates some of my claims:

Excuse me? Mother Nature? May we have a word?

Dear Mother Nature,

I want to begin by saying I love you. I really do. You have some of the most amazing creations. I love the crisp fall days when there is just a slight chill in the air and the changing leaves make hills look like an exquisitely designed quilt. I love dandelions. They make me smile because they are so bright and sunny and simply everywhere. I love trees that are covered in snow and diamond colored ice when the sun sparkles through them. I love the majestically terrifying way a storm front moves over my house making me shiver with apprehension and appreciation.

However, I wondered if you were aware of the date. It's April. Three weeks ago we had 80 degree days. Spring has arrived officially according to my calendar. I have seen my first Robin hopping anxiously around the yard, a traditional sign in my family that spring has indeed sprung.

That being said, what the hell is going on? I have awoken the past two days to a snow covered yard and vehicle. I've had to keep my heat at 70 degrees because I had taken down the plastic draft covers from my windows. My kids had to unhappily deposit their bikes back into the winterized shed. All winter coats, hats, mittens and boots had to be removed from bedroom closets and hung by the door once again. My heating blanket is back on high to combat the 30 degree nightly temperatures.

I don't mean to be whiny. Maybe you're just suffering from the worst universal case of P.M.S. ever. Maybe you were hoping we'd take Al Gore more seriously. Could this perhaps be a belated April fools joke? Whatever the reason I would appreciate it if you could stop now. Whatever point you are trying to make, I don't get it, but I do get that your mad as hell. But really, enough is enough.

Sincerely,
Me

I used to have dreams...

The girls and I sat down to lunch today, enjoying hot dogs that Prince Charming brought home last night from a great little hot dog shop.

As I took a bite reveling in both the flavor of an authentic Vienna hot dog with chili and cheese and the first un-healthy, un-sugar free, un-figure friendly thing I had eaten in 3 days, the strangest thought occurred to me. I had just said to myself, 'Remember when you wanted to own a hot dog shop? That would just be so much fun. Yet another dream under the bridge.'

I think I may have actually physically jumped a tad bit.

Another dream under the bridge?

Did I really have a bridge that I was shoving my dreams under? Were there really enough lost dreams and desires to qualify saying 'Yet another...' to myself?

I started to think back to my childhood and teen years. Things I had hoped to accomplish or planned on doing one day. Dreams that were so within grasp at the time and then I truly had, for some reason or another, shoved under that bridge a long time ago.

I then tried to reconcile by reminding myself that I hadn't put them there permanently. I had been using my bridge as a holding ground for some day. When Liberty turned 3 then I could put her at the local collage daycare and start classes. Then when Bean came along I extended that plan to when she turned 3.

I know that all dreams cannot be realized. That is the point of having dreams. To make the ones that you can a reality and strive to build yourself in pursuit of others.

This is a list of a few 'under the bridge' dreams I have collected over the years:
  • Publish a Children's Book
  • Open a Bakery/Coffee/Book Shop
  • Get my Nursing Degree
  • Take Web Design Classes
  • See Two Plays in Chicago with my Mom ever year
  • Go back to Virgina Beach
  • Go to Disney World
  • Go to Sea World
  • Visit Ireland
  • Raise Horses
  • Start a Successful 'At Home' business
I know that I will never realize all these different dreams and plans for my life, but I hope that in not forgetting and not giving up on this part of me that I can make some of them come to reality.
I am not writing this as a 'lost hopes' post, but as a reminder to myself of the dreams that I have and have had. A way for me to remind myself to remember those dreams because they are part of my soul and part of what make me who I am and what I am all about.

What dreams are hiding under your Bridge?
Are they lost or simply stuck?
